End of the Year Report

Yes, I am still talking about marketing. The end of the year report may be used to help with your marketing in several ways:

  • Raise your profile with your administrators--by showing them exactly what it is you are doing all day, the end of the year report validates that you are not eating bon bons and reading all day.

  • Give you a means to evaluate how you are doing--by comparing your reports from year to year, you can see changes in circulation, teacher visits, collection stats, all kinds of things. These numbers are hard data that you can use to evaluate if your branding and programs are really working for you.

  • Help you direct your goals for next year--by seeing from whence you have come, and looking at trends and patterns, you can use this report to give yourself direction for the next school year. It can also help you spot "holes" in your program and things to work on.

While I have always done a year end report of some type, last year I spotted Buffy Hamilton's report for the Unquiet Library 2008-09 (I haven't seen the one for this year yet.) I decided that it was time to do better. Being the chicken that I am, I did not post last year's report, but I have decided to take the plunge and post this year's report. You will notice right away that it is no where near as elaborate as Buffy's, but it works for me. I would encourage you to do some sort of end of the year evaluation, even if you do not publicize it, but I would strongly encourage you to also use it as a marketing tool if you can.
