Are you the one talent librarian?

Many of you are familiar with the parable of the talents. Just in case you are not, here is the abridged version:

A man is leaving town for an extended, but unknown amount of time. He entrusts three servants with money, according to their ability. One servant receives 5 talents, one receives 3 and the last servant only receives 1. The servants who received the 5 and the 2 begin right away putting the talents to work and earning more for their master upon his return. The 1 talent servant is afraid and buries his in the yard. When the master returns, he is pleased with the 5 talent and the 2 talent sevants. They are praised and put in charge of more. The servant who buried his talent, though he makes excuses, is harshly rebuked and thrown out.

So I ask you, are you the one talent librarian? Do you have a great collection, but no one knows about it? Do you have fabulous resources, but they are buried? Do you have expertise that is unused? Are you afraid? Does the fear of layoffs, or change, or whatever it is make you keep your head down and bury your talents? Try putting your talents to work! Advertise the collection. Promote those resources. Get involved and volunteer to do something to help your school with your expertise. Contrary to the movie, if you build it they will NOT come. You need to go to "them." Try using your talents for the good of your school. I think you will find there is a great reward.
