Today is the first chance I have had to reflect a little about some learning I did last week. I was privileged to attend the ESC Region XI 2010 Cowtown Children's and Young Adult Book Roundup in Fort Worth. I gave a presentation about the new Tayshas list (I was on the committee--it's like a dream come true, pinch me), and I was able to attend some other presentations that I thoroughly enjoyed. Here are just some of the things I learned over the course of the day:
- Librarians everywhere are doing great things. Don't believe me? Go to the Nimitz High School Library, where Natalie Sunde has wonderful promotions going for reading. One in particular that I think I will try is the Get Caught Reading Photo Contest.
- Betsy Ruffin taught me that the most technologically advanced person in the building (perceived) is called the Alphageek. I love it! :)
- All of us are concerned about helping kids learn, and that is the most important thing!
- Texas has some very fun authors. Check out Ray Villareal!
It was a great day, and I want to thank everyone who helped make it that way.
PS--I missed getting to see Naomi Bates, because I went to a different session. Fortunately, she has a blog, so I can still keep up.
I made the picture above at the Einstein image generator.
