The Library Brand
In this post at the Scholarly Kitchen, Phil Davis addresses something I have had some strong feelings on for some time. How far is too far? Have we diluted our library brand by trying to be too much to too many? I completely agree with his statements, so please read what he has to say and see what you think. I hear stories all the time about school librarians doing very non-library things, and I have the same reaction--in the long run, I don't think it is helpful to the mission of libraries, and it adds to the perception that we don't have a real mission or a real purpose--we are just sitting around hoping for something to do, anything. In reality--I am hoping to help someone learn something new today, find the perfect resource for their paper, figure out how to do something they have never done on the computer before--these are the things I dream of. People learning in the library.
