This retelling of Beauty and the Beast by Lauren Baratz-Logsted has interesting characters and some elements of magical realism worked into the plot. Read it, even if you are not a romance reader--I am not, and I liked it. Told from alternating points of view between Lucas, who blew his own hands off in a failed bomb-making attempt, and Aurora, the beautiful girl with a heart of gold, the story is compelling without being sappy. I am really against sappy. An added bonus is the fact that Aurora's dad is the school librarian. (Of course--has to be a man. Every good school librarian character in books is a man--why? The profession is like 85% women--you would think there would be at least one decent woman school librarian, but I digress.) Here is the trailer I made for it; it is posted on Teacher Tube, and I am sure Teresa will shortly have it loaded on Book Trailers for All. :)
Enjoy!
