Check out this NY Times article about teachers running a school. It will be interesting to see how this goes. There are several examples of other schools that have been using this model for a while. I would be interested in a follow up to see how those schools have done, and what changes were made.
In other news, here is an article about Drexel University's new program of assigning a personal librarian to the new freshman. What a great idea! Talk about an embedded librarian. Think of the service you could offer using "one on one" time with students. Drexel is making a committment to making information literacy as important as instruction, and indeed a part of instruction with this program. In my humble opinion, this is exactly the sort of thing we need. Information Literacy is not an add on, it is a part of the gestalt, it is embedded in classes, in subjects, in students' lives. How fabulous for those freshmen at Drexel. Now the rest of us need to figure out ways to make something similar happen in our own places.
