We had a staff development day on January 16 and the topic was Graphic Novels. Our presenters were Tuan Nguyen and Laura Jewell. It was very interesting. I especially enjoyed hearing a little history of comics. However, I find it is really difficult for me to get into Graphic Novels. I am willing, of course, to have them in the collection for our students, since they are popular reading. One thing I will say. I get a little tired of people trying to coerce me to read them. I don't really want to, and I don't understand why people insist that I must. As long as I am willing for the students to read them, why do I have to? I don't read every type of book we have in the library, nor should I be expected to. I DO read reviews, and keep up. In fact, I had heard of almost all the titles recommended at the workshop, so I think I am doing OK. Please don't make me read Graphic Novels.
